Materials
Sichuan Nanmu Bamboo · Xinjiang Cotton Threads · Hampaper · Tung Oil
Craftsmanship
76 procedures including bamboo selection, rib crafting, paper mounting, oil application
Production Time
48-68 hours (time varies)
Rainy weather extends curing time for oiled paper in shade
Handcrafted Nature
- Minor variations may exist due to manual production
- Tung oil oxidation varies with sunlight exposure
- Natural differences occur in the luster of the oil film
16-layer rib reinforcement at the canopy edge
By dividing the 360-degree circle into 11.25-degree rib sections, we restore the diamond-shaped crossing joints – a testament to practical craftsmanship. This reinforced edge structure enhances durability, making both canopy surface and perimeter less prone to damage while delivering robust visual solidity.
5-layered hampaper with 8-ply threading
Hampaper maintains exceptional toughness when wet. Oiled, it achieves translucency while traditional silk threads offer vivid yet rustic hues, though their thickness proves insufficient. To prevent breakage at the umbrella head, we specially selected fine cotton threads twisted into 8-ply strands after oiling. This yields a matte texture with substantial volume without requiring polyester reinforcement, resulting in superior quality. Yet this process demands significant time and labor
Hand-painted 8-panel canopy
Each 45-degree panel is meticulously colored with a reformulated dye for the 5-layer oiled paper. Applied with coarse-haired brushes to ensure uniform saturation, this centuries-old resilient paper withstands repeated opening/closing cycles. The visible brushwork unmistakably bears the mark of handcraftsmanship.
